The Dark Twist in the Vietnamese Version of the Cinderella Tale

The story of "Cinderella" is a beloved classic, one that most of us grew up reading or watching. We all know the familiar ending where Cinderella forgives her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, and lives happily ever after. But did you know there's a darker version of this story that comes from Vietnam?

In this Vietnamese adaptation, the tale doesn't end with forgiveness. Instead, it takes a grim and shocking turn.

The Dark Continuation:

According to this version, after the usual events of the Cinderella story, Cinderella does not simply forgive her stepmother and stepsisters. Instead, she plots a gruesome revenge against her stepsisters. She kills them, cuts their bodies into small pieces, and hides these remains at the bottom of a large bowl filled with fruit, sweets, and honey.

Cinderella then sends this bowl to her stepmother as a gift. Unaware of the horrific contents, the stepmother enjoys the food, piece by piece, relishing the treats.

As she nears the end of the bowl, she discovers the bones and remains of her daughters. Overcome with horror and shock, the stepmother suffers a fatal heart attack and dies on the spot.

A Twisted Tale:

This version of Cinderella presents a stark contrast to the forgiving, gentle character we’re familiar with. It reveals a tale where vengeance, rather than forgiveness, takes center stage, offering a chilling reminder of how folklore can vary across cultures, sometimes with a much darker twist.
